A duplicate drivers license can also be requested online if you meet a series of requirements. In order to request a replacement online, you cannot have obtained more than two replacements in the past five years, you may not have changed your legal name since your last license was issued, and your license must be currently valid. After completing an online request, you should receive your duplicate license within 20 days.
Alternatively, you can replace a drivers license at any driver licensing office. In order to replace your license, you must provide one form of identification. If your address has changed, you must present two forms of proof of address. If you have recently undergone a name change, you may only request a replacement drivers license in person and you must be able to provide proof of your name change. Acceptable forms of proof include a marriage certificate, divorce decree or a court order. Once your request has been made, you will be issued a temporary license and your new license will be mailed to you within 14 business days. Before updating your name with the DMV, make sure to update it through the Social Security Administration (SSA).
You can request a Nebraska drivers license replacement by mail if you are out of state, but it is important that you complete the Operators License Out of State Renewal Data Form to the best of your ability, as well as provide copies of your proof of identification and proof of address. You may not request a replacement by mail if you are not currently outside of the state.
If your lost drivers license may have been stolen, it is important that you file a police report with your local law enforcement department. Reporting a missing drivers license can help you to prevent your identity from being stolen. If you find fraudulent charges on your account accounts, you can use the police report to dispute them.
